The plot

9. Wild Knockout xBombs. A wild symbol that substitutes for others and also “explodes” adjacent symbols vertically and horizontally. Depicted as a fist.
10. Scatter. Activates the bonus game.

The design

When developing “The Cage”, its creators implemented high-quality 2D graphics. Almost all symbols are depicted as card suits or fighter portraits. When forming a winning combination, they light up before disappearing, while various sound and visual effects are played.

The bonus game

This slot machine also features an additional function related to the Wild symbol. After the wild explodes, it increases the multiplier by one, increasing the payout for subsequent combinations formed within the same spin. Before each spin, the multiplier resets to x1.

The rows have a varying number of symbols – the three centre rows are split into 2 sectors, the others are split into 3 sectors. In the bonus game, winning combinations can be formed left-to-right and right-to-left.

The bonus game is made to look like a fight against a specific opponent shown in the background. Health bars for the opponent and gambler are shown below the reels. The gambler has a health bar split into eight segments representing the free spins. Uppercut symbols can land during spins, removing one health segment from the opponent. If at least one Uppercut lands, an extra re-spin is awarded without deducting from remaining free spins.

If the gambler defeats the opponent, the next fight will begin with a different enemy. The remaining number of free spins is carried over to the next round and is not restored.

Each fight is set against a specific opponent:

1. Fight 1. Big Fatty is the opponent, with a 3-segment health bar. Victory awards +3 free spins.
2. Fight 2. The opponent is Ironjaw. He has 3 health, victory awards +3 FS.
3. Fight 3. The opponent is One Glove Man. His health bar has 4 segments, victory awards +3 FS.
4. Fight 4. The opponent is The Constrictor. He has 5 health segments, victory awards +5 FS.
5. Fight 5. This is the final fight, where the opponent is Little Dragon. He has no health bar; the fight continues until free spins end.

During bonus rounds, the playing field has a unique feature. Four symbols in the centre are enclosed in a golden frame, imitating a championship belt. Each belt segment serves a specific function. In the first fight these are inactive, and each subsequent fight one segment will activate its function.

By the fifth fight, all segment functions will be active:

• The top segment makes symbols that land there receive a x2 multiplier.
• The left segment makes symbols that land there transform into the opponent’s symbol.
• The right segment makes symbols that land there transform into the opponent’s symbol.
• The bottom segment transforms that position into a Wild.

Functions only last one spin, then reset for the next spin.
