The Greedy Chief Doctor

Years went by, and the hospital started to deteriorate. The chief doctor, seeing the Western wing slowly falling apart, ordered all patients to be moved to the Eastern wing. There weren’t many people! Usually, even in the Eastern wing, there were plenty of empty rooms. The same was true for the Western wing.

The chief doctor was in no hurry to allocate money for repairs. That damn miser was hoping to get the necessary funds from the Department of Health, the city hall, or anywhere else—even from the sky.

The bureaucrats didn’t give him any money, no matter how many letters he sent. The chief doctor wrote almost every day, trying to justify the need for repair payments for the hospital.

Meet Doctor Death!

Finally, the Western wing nearly emptied. Now, only Doctor Death worked there, a man known for “treating” patients to death in the most twisted ways. He “worked” in the Western wing after finishing his shift in the Eastern one. He was known to everyone, though no one suspected that the respectable and intelligent man had a dark side, one darker than the devil’s soul.

The only person who knew about the surgeon’s gruesome hobby was the chief doctor. Of course, he stubbornly kept quiet, pretending that nothing was happening right under his nose. Doctor Death knew about the financial schemes of the big boss. The chief doctor had gotten his hands dirty too when he ran the department.

Mad Dreams and the First Victim

Doctor Death was a first-rate surgeon! The mad doctor dreamed of slicing human bodies into a thousand pieces, then stitching them back together to bring the patient back to life.

The first victim of the maniac was his own wife, who was planning to divorce him. Of course, Lady Justice would have given her almost all the property accumulated over many years of marriage. And the money in her husband’s bank accounts would also have flowed into her hands.

Doctor Death cured his wife of any signs of life. He used sleeping gas and then took a scalpel to protect his money. The killer’s wife in the white coat died of a heart attack — this is exactly what the medical report states, and no one, including the police, has any doubts. Doctor Death was a respectable family man and a true professional—who would suspect such a worthy person?

Reluctant Accomplice

The chief doctor dreamed of sending his insane colleague to a psychiatric facility. Of course, he was a miser, a greedy man, a bribe-taker, and he would have made a better bureaucrat than a doctor, but this guy was sharp and perfectly sane. There was a good chance that Doctor Death would be considered insane, but some might take his statements seriously, check his accounts, and then someone would end up behind bars for many years.

No One Cares

The crazy surgeon “treated” those patients whom no one cared about — lonely people who wouldn’t be missed. And if something was wrong with the body, like vital organs were missing or the face was disfigured beyond recognition, no one would investigate the cause. All that was needed was to file the right medical report, and that’s it — rest in peace, incurable patient!
